Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 425-176 Steering Shaft: Enhanced Performance for Select Models by Devin Jenkins

My experience and why I would advise sticking with the GM wave.

I usually buy genuine GM (or ACDelco) parts for my Chevrolet. I took a chance and bought this Dorman part even though the price was almost the same as a GM OEM product. I regret the purchase but got it working anyway. The reason I went with this is because the shank is a long, solid sheet of metal, thicker than the OEM, which is rounded down the middle. I figured that even though it's Chinese metal, the design would be superior to the OEM steering shaft because that's one of the marketing points of this product: it's an improved design from the OEM. The new GM steering shaft has an updated design, so stick with it. This one didn't fit the lower shaft at all. I had to use my bench grinder and a rough grinder to remove some of the metal to fit. Unfortunately Dorman admits this, I'm pretty sure as their instructions state, to make sure this part fits on the bottom shaft, then essentially blames General Motors for the excessive torque and says that if it doesn't fit , the underside could be damaged by over-tightening. If you are buying this you are probably replacing a steering shaft that was originally manufactured in 2000-2006 and after a while it began to rattle meaning the shaft was factory installed. Also note that this one was significantly thicker than the original at the attachment point, which explains why it didn't fit. So in the end this replacement stopped the rattling which was my main goal hence the two stars but if they had a Chinese machine of the right size the first time it would have done the job in 15-20 minutes instead of two. Watch.
