GREAT SOLUTION FOR A NOISY PROBLEM!

Installs and works like clockwork. It's actually a plastic steering column bearing. I blame GM for not really sealing the bearing. This bar was easy to remove but a bit difficult to reattach from the inside. I installed both items myself and after a month I was VERY HAPPY. No noise, no rattling, the steering wheel has become much better. I highly recommend buying the Dorman 905-512 with it. You don't need the steering column pin either. Simply use the seat belt to lock the steering wheel in a…

A better design than OEM should work better in the long run.

Better design than OEM, the underside of the OEM countershaft is only splined halfway which I believe is a design flaw which over time can cause the lever to loosen in this area and cause misalignment , resulting in Chevrolet steering wheel noise. Dorman is designed to use the full length of the guide shafts for increased rigidity all around. I also replaced the lower steering wheel bearing which can be checked before installation by reaching under the dash and wiggling the intermediate shaft…

Trim Installation Tips

Installation isn't terrible, but it will test your patience. Usually you want to test the installation in the engine compartment first. The lower shaft is probably not pinched like the reviews or instructions say. However, this is an exact match. The OEM top appears to be 0.5mm smaller or crushed. Now it's a friction fit. After a test ride, I attached the boot to the fender with a bungee to make it slide better. You can use a long screwdriver or flat object to motivate popping out from under…

The gatekeeper is coming again

The gatekeeper has helped us all before, and this mine was no exception. This solved the loose steering issue I had in combination with the steering shaft bearing. Installation was easy and took about fifteen minutes. Pretty easy installation but you have to go under the dash and unhook it from the bottom shaft in the engine bay. Make sure when replacing parts that you also replace the shaft bearing, otherwise you will still have to go back to replace it. I've been fixing my cars for years and…

After replacing the shaft and bearing, the steering wheel stops wheezing

I purchased this part to fix a clunky steering noise on my 2005 Silverado. I also bought a replacement bearing from Dorman. After replacing both parts, my steering wheel no longer stays still. Before swapping parts, the steering was always awkward when I turned the truck while going over bumps. A creak was also heard when turning the steering wheel. Before replacing the parts I got under the dash and there was a little play in the tie rod so replacing the bearing would be a good idea too. I…

Easy assembly, easy design change to the original axle

As stated in the product description, the design of the original axle is slightly modified. It looks more durable and is optically subject to less wear and tear than the original component. I replaced this shaft along with the lower steering shaft bearing and the steering rattle and the feeling that the front suspension would fall out of the truck were eliminated. It was the right repair for my car. It was 153K at the time of the service. I also serviced 1 upper ball joint as well as the…

Fixed slight wobble on my speaker along with Dorman 905-512

Attach firmly - after removing my existing jackshaft it was very clear that it was a little loose and so was the bearing in the green bearing housing. removed the black rubber boot in the engine compartment, as well as the accelerator pedal and accelerator pedal support to make room. Inserting the new assembly was very tight - I installed the bearing using the old one and the pry bar - the old one broke very badly when used as a support to pry open the new one. I had an extra steering wheel…

Purchased after the notorious knocking in the steering column at low speeds that has been widely reported on the Chevrolet Tahoe on several forums. GM knows this is an issue, but has not yet withdrawn the recall for the steering shaft replacement. If you're tired of hearing your steering wheel rattling and feeling like it's about to fall apart, this is your solution. The Dorman product is much heavier in construction and quality than OEM parts. The entire installation with the help of YouTube…

My experience and why I would advise sticking with the GM wave.

I usually buy genuine GM (or ACDelco) parts for my Chevrolet. I took a chance and bought this Dorman part even though the price was almost the same as a GM OEM product. I regret the purchase but got it working anyway. The reason I went with this is because the shank is a long, solid sheet of metal, thicker than the OEM, which is rounded down the middle. I figured that even though it's Chinese metal, the design would be superior to the OEM steering shaft because that's one of the marketing…
