After replacing the shaft and bearing, the steering wheel stops wheezing

I purchased this part to fix a clunky steering noise on my 2005 Silverado. I also bought a replacement bearing from Dorman. After replacing both parts, my steering wheel no longer stays still. Before swapping parts, the steering was always awkward when I turned the truck while going over bumps. A creak was also heard when turning the steering wheel. Before replacing the parts I got under the dash and there was a little play in the tie rod so replacing the bearing would be a good idea too. I highly recommend replacing BOTH parts. The bearing is hard to hit, but it's a must if you're replacing the shaft. The shaft is easy to disassemble and replace. There are great videos online showing how to do this. A simple repair you can do yourself. See my photos, the original is at the top with the large U-joint, the Dorman part is at the bottom. The original stock has a telescopic stock, the replacement does not.

Pros
  • A lot of positive emotions
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
