Works well! Be careful!

Even if the router has a guide, you can still miss it! The router can catch on the wood and cut too deep towards the fence. To fix this I put a small clamp on the other side of the router so it couldn't go over the edge of the wood. Once you start cutting the channel you can turn off the router and then attach a clamp to the other side of the router base to hold it where you want it. railing on. Without a guide it was almost impossible to be accurate and I didn't want to put extra holes in my beautiful mahogany posts. It worked great.
