Review on 3.5 inch HDD External Case USB 3.0/USB 2.0 to SATA Enclosure for 3.5 SATA HDD External Storage Box with Aluminum Case (USB2.0-Black) by Daniel Drury

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Terribly designed - and doesn't work.

I understand that very few people will buy a USB 2.0 enclosure as there are cheaper, higher quality USB 3.0 enclosures out there. I wanted this because I have an old Nintendo Wii with a broken floppy drive that I'm trying to modify to read games from a USB hard drive and the Wii often has trouble reading USB 3.0 devices. So I bought it hoping my Wii could see the old 3.5 inch hard drive I had lying around. Well, it's not because the device isn't working. It didn't work on my Windows 10 desktop (Device Manager showed "The device was not migrated due to a partial or ambiguous match"). It didn't work on my Kubuntu 20.04 desktop. It didn't work with the Wii. It just doesn't work. But I have a bad device. It's one thing to slip through the quality control implemented by the manufacturer and quite another to get a device that should never be released to the public due to its stunningly poor design. back, you'll have to remove both ends, which are held in place with microscopic screws that are irretrievably lost if they ever hit even the thickest carpet or rug - and I encourage you to find them on a smooth floor, too. The hard drive itself is secured with four typical screws hidden behind plastic plugs that, for simplicity, require removing at least one end of the case (presumably the end without the SATA controller) to remove or insert it. Just eight screws, two tails, two plastic rails, and everything you need to hold a 3.5" hard drive. Insanity. It must have been designed by someone who had no idea how anyone could use this thing. If I could give a negative star rating I would. I have no idea what the seller's customer service is like - I wasn't trying to take advantage of it. In a fit of COVID-induced housecleaning frenzy, I disposed of the box before testing the device. But I still wouldn't agree to a replacement, I'd rather give up games altogether than deal with such a poorly designed product. I eat only 15 dollars.
