Not sure why they got bad reviews? Because I opened the airbag, let go and then shook it up at different angles. I put them in a case once and they were in my bedding - they looked and felt amazing. If you want really good down, wash and dry it first, then fluff it up. The same goes for the cover, wash the cover. It becomes more cozy and adapts to the pillow with a full feeling. Now my queen bed doesn't feel so empty with only 3 queen pillows.
