First of all I would like to say that this stand is bulletproof. It's sturdier than my bike's rack and can easily handle heavy loads. I bought it to travel with my road bike and for that it is more than good. It would probably be even better to mount it on a trail bike for bikepacking if the front fork is stiff. It's a bit heavy which affects the long haul but unlike most other front racks on the market this one actually lasts a long time. Installation was easy, but be aware that if your bike has rim brakes you will need to ensure the bracket fits the brake. The bracket fits just over the center of my center link calipers, but I can't speak for all of them. As for the mounting bars that attach to the axle; I had no problems installing them. Your axle just slides through the holes. Overall I would recommend this rack to anyone unless you are counting grams for an ultra light load. I highly recommend and will probably buy another one for my other bike.
