This is a Solenoid. The solenoids require a higher current to activate and then a much lower current to stay open called the holding current. If you apply 12 volts to the valve and just leave it there, it will get hot. The hotter it gets, the higher its reliability. goes to the toilet. This applies to all solenoids except when their active time is very short, which is not normally the case with a water valve. I recommend the Texas Instruments DRV120 driver IC. I do not recommend controlling this valve directly from the GPIO pin.
