Review on Emerson Ceiling CF711ORS Indoor 50 Inch by Michelle Marie

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Exceptionally, but not for high or sloping ceilings, the remote control must be used, otherwise exclusively

, not the usual 3/4". Ceiling fans should be with the blades about 7 feet above the Floor mounted, so high ceilings require the use of an additional drain pipe. I couldn't find a 1/2" anywhere. Emerson says they cost about $50 (less than $10 for a 3/4"), but I could couldn't get my hands on it, plus it costs 3/4 of the whole fan. Finally I was able to come up with an adapter, but it was a lot of work and it didn't look good. I ordered a white 50" fan (I have checked this against the order list); I have a 42" fan. in bronze. The picture and name on the factory sealed box was 50" bronze while the Revain sticker said there ss it was 50" white. Aside from being the wrong color, the smaller 42-inch blades let less air through. Once I found the right configuration I was dying to install it, so I saved it. This fan is designed and priced to be attractive to contractors and builders. A lot of people don't care if the fan is too high; The customer is just looking for a nice fan that spins. It should be easy and quick to install. But even if you use the included pole, which is too short for higher ceilings, or flush mount it, there are two more problems. My vaulted ceiling has a steep angle which means the included bracket will not fit, again you will need an additional Emerson kit. If it were a standard sized rod, an 8 3/4" base would solve this problem. Finally, the fan pull chain from the light bowl just doesn't work - it gets stuck in place so the chain isn't tightened , every time you change a light bulb, you need to pass the circuits through a very small hole, while passing the fan circuit through the nut, install the bowl and tighten the nut, you also must not let the circuit touches any of the three bulbs or it will shorten their lifespan. That's practically impossible. I've had to run it outside the light glass where it's dangerous to pull it when the blades are moving. However, I also installed a general remote control so that I don't have to change the speed switch and thread the chain either buy the tulip bulb version or use a remote control instead service. Aside from these problems, it is relatively easy and quick to install. DESIGN AND EASY INSTALLATION = ONE*. Performance - with a smaller 42" blade, it barely moves enough air (although the amount is typical of cheaper fans). Most users haven't experienced high airflow performance, so this might not be a big deal, especially for smaller spaces. However, it is absolutely silent even at high RPMs, does not vibrate or wobble This is an exceptional case as all but the best fans usually have problems PERFORMANCE RATING - 4**** VALUE - 5***** "Lifetime Warranty" on the engine (doesn't spin at high RPM so doesn't stress the engine). It looks nice too. In my case, since my ceiling is over 8 feet high, I had to spend extra money on the parts needed and also spend a lot of time figuring out how to install them successfully. It would save money and time if you buy the next best model from Emerson that doesn't have any of these drawbacks (it costs about $100-$150 more, oh a remote control). I wouldn't buy any other brand, just a different model (I've bought a dozen different brands over the years). But if you buy the tulip bulb version, or buy a remote control, or mount it to a mid-level flat ceiling or flush mount, you'll get a lot. If you have regular ceilings, you won't have these problems.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
