Review on πŸ’§ White Hydro Life 52103 HL-170 QC Under Counter Water Filter Kit by Kelly Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good filter but confusing installation instructions.

Works and works well. Thanks to filtration, the water tastes naturally neutral and soft. The kit includes quick disconnects to allow the filter to be removed quickly and easily. Quick couplings do not leak. The kit includes a short replacement hose so you can remove the filter and reconnect the water supply. This is how you ensure uninterrupted water pressure in the tap (of course, the water is not filtered). This is a good feature for RVs stored over the winter as freezing temperatures can damage the filter or use antifreeze on the lines. Line. The white floor fittings shown in the product photo are not included in the scope of delivery. (see product photo) These fittings also do not match the assembly instructions that come with the kit. The fittings in the package are designed to fit 1/2" pipe that can be 'plugged in', meaning you only need to insert your existing 1/2" pipe into the fitting (it's a product by DMfit called "Union Connector"). And while it may be a good connector, it doesn't fit instructions that require a "barb" adjustment. The solution: Go to a hardware store and buy two 1/2-inch barb fittings that will fit into your existing plumbing line. (My existing water line is 3/8 inch ID). Two 1/2" brass fittings with 3/8" male threads are $15 for ACE gear! This one would be cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/Dixon-Valve-BF34-Fitting-Insert/dp/B00DE7JYKI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1472050944&sr=8-5&keywords=1%2F2%22+ female + Tried+3%2F8%22+dorn Customer Service: quick but confusing. On Friday I called HydroLife to explain that the installation instructions call for a barbed compression fitting. And could you send me the right fittings? On Monday I received the replacement fittings which were identical to those in the kit! Conclusion: Good undersink water filter. If your existing plumbing lines are 1/2 inch OD and you rely on a push-in fitting, this may be perfect for you. Otherwise, get 1/2" female compression fittings (two required) that fit your existing plumbing line and you'll be fine.
