My 7 year old grandson loves these radios. They are a bit smaller than others, so they fit comfortably in the hand. The green camouflage and brown camouflage are perfect for his undercover operations! The best thing I like about it are the battery saving features - yes, the features. Kids leave those radios on and go all over the place. After 1 1/2 hours the radios turned off to save battery. We've had other radios where we've used tons of batteries, but not yet with this one. In addition, the device switches to energy-saving mode after five seconds. It's hard to test if it works, but I know we didn't need to use new batteries after a few days of play. There's also a keyboard lock after 10 seconds, but I'm not sure what that means. After the radio sits for a few minutes, it works when you touch any button. The keyboard does not appear to be locked. I did notice the screen going blank, maybe that's what they mean. While I'm not sure, the other two battery savers are great for kids. The volume doesn't seem to work well. Pressing the up or down arrow multiple times doesn't seem to do anything, and there's no visual indication that the volume is changing. This isn't a problem as I've never had to change the volume on my walkie-talkies. Channels are main channels 1-9 with no auxiliary channels. More expensive devices allow you to use additional channels, but this is not necessary for children. These blocks are also solid with no sharp edges and appear to be quite durable as well. For this reason and the battery saving function, they are ideal for children. It says they're high-performing, but it doesn't say how far they go. I have one for my wife in our very isolated home and went outside. After driving a half mile saying "Can you hear me?" I went home. That's as far as I need walkie talkies and farther than I want my grandson to go. My wife and I also use them with our caravan. My wife has one and I have another for when we return to the campgrounds or our pole shed at home. It is very comfortable! To access the battery compartment, you must remove the belt hook. There is a lever at the top of the hook which when pushed pushes the belt hook up and off the device. It easily returns to its place. You even get a small screwdriver to remove the battery cover so you don't have to look around the house for it. It also keeps little kids from opening the battery compartment. There are quite a lot of kid features in these devices. All in all these are good radios for the price with great features for kids.
