A good gadget to keep your toys happy in the cold season.

I bought a Schumacher SC1344 wireless charger to charge and service the battery on my Mustang Mach 1 and Lincoln Mark IV during the winter break. They're in the garage. I was looking for a smart charger/repair device and had my eye on ctek and a few other brands. After having bad experiences with inferior brand x chargers (dead after a few hours of use), I started avoiding ctek as users (including my neighbor) had issues with broken plastic buttons on the device. My interest shifted to the Deltran Battery Tender with Wi-Fi capability and finally the Schumacher SC 1344. As there is no charger/maintainer with Wi-Fi monitoring available on the European market (I live in Germany) I have I decided to buy an American Schumacher device and use it with 230/110V voltage converter. The charger arrived shortly thereafter and I unpacked it. The charger comes with a set of cables and adapters for mounting on the car. There are alligator clips, a fixed connection with a circuit board connector and a cigarette lighter adapter plug. Although I'm not an IT newbie, I found the installation a bit complicated and not easy. You need to set the charger to temporary Wi-Fi server mode to perform the basic setup by connecting it to your home network. In my opinion it would be much easier if Schumacher would build an Ethernet connection into the device. You can then just plug it into your home network switch and set it up on your desktop. The manufacturer may have decided against this to prevent the device from accessing your network from your garage or parking lot. and charging curve with different states of charge. The app also shows the battery percentage and charging time. The latter appears to be inaccurate as it doesn't actually show how long the battery has been connected to the charger. To be honest I have no idea how long it counts. Data updates are somewhat sluggish and sometimes random. Because the charger is connected to the Schumacher server and your user account, the charger can be controlled from anywhere in the world (provided your mobile device is connected to the provider). The charger will not charge a fully discharged battery. In order to recognize a healthy battery, it needs a residual battery voltage of about 2V. So if you have a completely dead battery, a charger isn't going to save you from getting stuck. When voltage is present, the charger starts working quite quickly and the power needed to start the car is quickly reached. How the charger does it with only 3A charging power is a miracle for me. I would like Schumacher to make the charger usable worldwide and give it an intelligent power supply that automatically switches from 110 V to 230 V and vice versa. Like a smartphone charger. In non-USI countries it can then be used without a transformer, giving it four stars.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
