difficult to read; inconvenient to use

Not impressed. My reservoir is looped and I've used up my Hach ammonia kit so I decided to try this one. In short, the disks float on the surface of the sample and the color changes unevenly across the disk. Receive the package and read the instructions; The procedure described is very simple: you put the sample in a small well (they hold about 1 ml), take the disc with tweezers, rinse it with clean water and put it in the well. After 15 minutes read the disc. Color on the scale (marked 0-6ppm) or after 30 minutes (the same scale marked 0-3ppm). So open the jar with the slices and notice that there are crystals on it. Maybe the storage solution is dry? I pressed the sponge to the bottom of the storage jug - it seems to have become soaked with water; maybe it should be like that. I made 2 samples, one full strength and one diluted 50/50 with reverse osmosis water, and placed the disks as instructed. After 15 minutes the paint on both discs was very patchy; difficult to read. Waited 30 minutes for a complete replacement; I hope the color is permanent. Assuming the top didn't get enough sample exposure, I looked at both sides - no, both are stained; I can't tell what color it is exactly. I then tried pressing the discs down with a piece of plastic cut from vinyl tubing - maybe leaving it in after an hour will give a readable result? Balance? After another 30 minutes there is no improvement. Maybe take a photo each time and calculate the average color with GIMP? Or mentally ignore the parts of the disc that are still yellow and try to imagine what the rest of the color is? Serious? Sorry - I can't use this; fifteen dollars wasted. Let's get back to the haha test. Refilling costs a little more, but at least it's legible.

Pros
  • 75 TESTS: MultiTest Amonia performs more than 75 tests. The multi-well test plate allows multiple chemical tests to be performed simultaneously.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
