Too short for use over hot coals

This is a good scraper, well built and looks like it could be used on any BBQ. My problem is that the handle is too short to use over a lighted grill. If you scrape away the part of the grill furthest from you, your hand will be right over the fire. I can try to find an old pen, cut it out. and use the scraper. This gives the extra length needed.
