The motor in the picture has a low profile angled connector. These features allow the fan cover to be custom-fitted. The motor I received had a straight fork (no angle and high profile). This meant it was more difficult to install and the lid didn't fit snugly. I actually had to bend 2 vent fins to complete the job. I had to have this fan installed as I had a full house so I "slapped it up" but I'm still disappointed.

I decided to replace an old curved bathroom fan in my existing closet but it would cost at least $130 so I decided to replace the motor. The engine is identical and runs great, no more scratches :). The noise level is acceptable and depends on the vibration of the case mounting, the new fans are significantly quieter, but they require replacing the entire unit and repairing the wall. The complexity of replacing the engine assembly is average.

I bought this unit specifically because it was rated at 1550rpm. exact specifications, like the ones I wanted to replace. It was delivered quickly and works, but only has a rated speed of 1500 rpm. I found out after taking everything apart and looking at the sticker on the motor. It works but was misleading. Maybe spend a little more and get an exact motor replacement.

I didn't want to struggle to find a similar sized bathroom fan when the motor failed. So I decided it would be best to find a new fan blade and motor. I bought two of these Nutone 8831 exhaust fan motors to install in my house. Works great out of the box. Just install an exhaust faucet in the bathroom. The shaft is slightly longer than the original, but fitting it with the new pressure wheel was no problem. The noise is moderate - not unexpected. I'm glad I can replace the original motors with something that works! Replacing all fittings is no problem for me.

The driveshaft on this motor is thicker and slightly longer than the original motor, the she replaced. I had to use 1/4 thick rubber washers to pad it so it wouldn't rub. The stock steering column didn't fit so I had to buy a plastic fan to get it working. The fan suggested by Revain was too big, but Broan S99020276 Blower Wheel and Housing worked great. It's a bit noisy, but the air moves well. FYI, keep all the brackets from your original fan as this is just a bare motor.

While this motor is easy to install, it is noisier than the 15 year old motor I replaced. In contrast, I've bought genuine Nutone OEM motors over the years and the fan has been significantly quieter since replacing the motor. Motors with a sleeve bearing (rather than a ball bearing arrangement) at each end of the rotor and a rotor that may not be perfectly balanced contribute to louder running noise levels.
