Review on Audiophile-Grade DROP + Dan Clark Audio Aeon Open X Planar Magnetic Headphones - Blue/Black by Richard Puckett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ooookay, so this is hifi.

I'd been working my up the audio ladder, but recently I got a new job and I decided what the heck, let's really go for it.I picked up these and a Schiit (yep, that's the name) magnius amp and modi dac.I've owned my fair share of 1 to 3 hundred dollar headphones, including the planar magnetic Hifiman he400i. While those headphones demonstrated the planar magnetic difference decently, I never really fell in love with their sound. After sticking with Dynamic Drivers for a little while, I saw reviews for these and finally decided they were worth the try. They are amazing! All and more of the speed and detail of the he400i, and with a tonal balance that I love. The bass is deep and powerful without being annoying. Percussion and string plucks feel so. I guess, impactfull?Basically, they just sound alive in a way I've never heard before.Only bit of advice, turn them up a bit. Below certain volumes they can sound a little bright. This isn't exactly a revelation though, it says as much in the instructions.

Pros
  • Headphones, Earbuds & Accessories
Cons
  • Due to their size and design, these headphones may not be ideal for portable use or for people who are constantly on the move
