I've never worked with AC before and thought it was time to give it a try. The compressor ended up failing on a 2003 250,000 mile expedition. I bought a replacement compressor, set of pressure gauges and vacuum pump from Revain. All items arrived as planned. A vacuum pump is required after installing a new compressor. I hooked up the vacuum pump to a set of gauges using simple fittings that came as part of the pump and connected the gauge fittings to the refrigerant lines under the hood. The top and bottom connections are different sizes, so it is not possible to connect the pump incorrectly. The pump has a simple on/off switch. It took several minutes for the pump to reduce the vacuum to the recommended 30psi. I turned off the gauge and pump and waited about 4 hours to make sure there were no leaks in the system. The pump worked perfectly. I'm not sure an expensive pump would work any other way, but for the limited number of people I need it for, it works great and is less than $60 (shipping included). I am very satisfied with the performance of the pump.
