I seem to have managed to stop the slow leaking through the valve cover. When first installed it protrudes about 1/8 inch or a few millimeters from the cover. One of the questions and answers considers this to be normal, but I'm still not sure how much the material needs to be compressed to fully seat the screws. The stupid cover is also plastic, so it flexes a little when you put it on, especially in the corners. If you're particularly picky, get an OEM seal so you know it's as good as it gets. Engine covers were metal), so I don't care if the gasket bends the cover slightly. I'm just glad this problem (leak) is behind me because if previous experience with this car is any indicator, I can bet I'll have to deal with many more random and silly little car-related bugs in the future.
