Review on πŸ”§ Albion Engineering B12MG Pointing Loading Tool by Kevin Mitchell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This mortar gun works great!

This well-made gun delivers enough pressure to evenly control the flow of solution. My application is grouting horizontal floors between variable porosity handcrafted terracotta tiles that are quite difficult to clean from the contrasting color of the grout so the standard pour and scrape technique leaves a terrible cleaning job. This works great to fill the seams with just enough extra material to gently compress and leave minimal mess on the surface. Although my grout varies from 3/8" to 3/4" due to irregularities in the tile, I've found that a narrow nozzle cut to a hole about 1/4" works best to quickly Apply grout to the bottom seam. Then fill it out carefully on the second pass. Using a quick-setting resin mortar, I mix up one tube at a time, cleaning between tubes. I've found that a standard spout funnel just fits and makes the pipe easier to fill. I can see that if you try to use this with a stiff grout mix like vertical bricks or irregularly shaped stones, the grout gets too hard for this applicator (should?!), but for horizontal grout or narrow vertical joints it works like this and it was promised. As far as tip lifespan and availability of replacements go, I see them at a low price on Albion, if not Revain. But the first sentence still works. Constructive Suggestions: I suspect most people have a better blender than Revain. the one that came with it - I do - I suggest Al Bion remove the blender and replace it with a proper funnel and as the tip is very difficult to remove from the barrel after a single use I suggest with a barrel for each tip to sell. Highly recommended.
