As others have said in the reviews here those protrusions on the bottom are the ones meant to wrap the cords a couple of times to keep them in place. instead of retracting the lines with use - they are at the seams and don't feel as strong. Instead of going through what others have gone through with rips and tears, wrap 3 inch hard fiber cord wrap clips by attaching them outside of the clothesline sleeve, maybe 1.5 inches or so. They work very well and should outlive the device and its cords. I will definitely not use pimples. The manufacturer should reinforce these outrageously thin protrusions. I would give this five stars instead of four. I have to hang small items in the laundry room that won't go in the electric dryer and shouldn't put a Brabantia Lift-o-Matic screen dryer outside for --- bought from Revain by the way, put them up a few years ago and it's the best unit I've ever seen or used, so it's only about 12 feet of coverage, which is pretty good. so that the lines are relatively taut and do not sag. This is possible, but if it's not organized and instead done by eye every time, the lines will either be too loose or too tight to fully attach to the spikes. But then I figured out how to do it right every time. Here's how to do both lines: 1. Pull out the lines and attach them to the hooks you placed at the end of their length.2. Take a measuring ruler, which is easier to use for this purpose than a retractable steel tape measure, and stick the end of it into the hole where one of the lines comes out of the body of the device.3. With the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, grasp the line directly by the hole where the end of the ruler is. Pull the line out to 19" - that's a good starting point as that's the distance I finally got after much experimentation - and press the line with your thumb at the 19" mark against the ruler. and forefinger and presses the criterion firmly on the opening of the line. 4. Release the hand holding the arshin and grab the ruler right by the hole. You now have one hand holding the line against the 19” mark and with the other hand holding the line at the edge of the hole. Holding the line taut between the 19" hand and the hole, release the ruler (now held by the 19" hand) and drop it.6. Holding the leash at the edge of the hole and holding it taut with the other hand, lead the leash to the wall of the body and hook it to the bottom of the bar.7. Wrap the line all the way around the spike, bottom to top, then top to bottom, and then bring the line back up so you make one and a half turns. Hook the leash to the top of the boot as if you're going to wrap it around again, but don't.8. If 19" suits your setup, the line is slightly slack, but as taut as possible without being too tight. If it's too tight to catch at the top, start with 20" next time; If it's too slack, try again with 18". Regardless of the correct length of extension, once the line is hanging and attached the way you want it, take your magic marker and mark the line right there , where it curves back to the edge of the hole. Then unwrap the line from the clip, causing it to contract, and pull back out until you see a black dot. Take your magic marker and place a black ring around the line where the point is so you can easily find it if you want to extend the lines to use.The black mark always runs straight along the edge of the hole.Maybe there is another way to do this but mine fi el no one. This is a minor issue, but once the correct amount of line slack is determined to attach the lines to the spikes and the lines are marked with a magic marker, extending and securing the lines afterwards is not difficult.
