I have a few balaclavas that I have bought for motorcycling over the years and have paid good money for most. The problem I have with all of them is that the hole is too small for my head to slip through which puts a lot of strain on my neck, also the face hole is generally too small and a part that closes my mouth gets wet (disgusting ). The part above your mouth doesn't quite touch, so it doesn't get dirty. The apron is also very long so it can be tucked into a jacket to keep your neck and upper chest warm. It's quite warm on the way. I've been riding at highway speeds in 35-40 degrees and my dual sport helmet has quite a bit of airflow including the always open head vents. I'm warm enough. The only gripe for me is that there is a tuft of fabric in the center of the forehead area that lifts my helmet, which in turn makes it difficult to read my gauges. It doesn't matter much.
