This is listed as a 'pencil sharpener' but I'm pretty sure it's only for sharpening pencils. The box says "taille-crayon" (in French), which translates to "pencil sharpener". Nothing else on the packaging says it's for crayons. Chalk can technically be sharpened with it, but it sharpens them to the point like a pencil and it's very difficult to keep them from breaking and jamming inside. It took a long time for a crayon to be sharp enough to take a picture because it kept breaking. After breaking some crayons and pulling the wax out of this pencil sharpener, I decided that it just wouldn't work for what we bought it for. We'
