Fighting mold in my dishwasher's bottom drain is no fun, but non-phosphate detergents make it possible. Luckily, I've read several articles online about using citric acid to kill mold. Works perfectly! I put a teaspoon in the bottom drain basket after each load, another before I start the dishwasher, and another in the detergent. My dishes no longer have the white chalk streaks that appear after most loads and the mold on the underside is almost completely gone. Almost - I still need to inspect and clean regularly, but it's not as often as it was when I got this!
