I wanted to love her SO! As much as I love fermenting, I've yet to find a super clean way to do it, and these lids really looked like the solution to my messy marinade problems. But after trying to use them for the first time, my fresh batch of carrots were covered in my old lids and ziploc bags as before. Experience step by step: (1) When I opened the box, three lids were torn off. - daft date lugs and rings hanging in the air and needing assembly. But they are terribly beautiful, and I was still sure that I would like them. (2) The date tabs really need a redesign. They love to loosen up and fly through space, and most are too loose to keep the date safe once you've set it. (3) Today I tried to use five caps. Three suckled normally for ten to twenty seconds and sucked all the air back in during that time. I couldn't suck the other two. I made sure the caps were tight and the valves looked like they should work, but I was never able to achieve that. Call my husband into the kitchen to take them off the cans for me. I'm not small or weak, I'm just impatient. They were FABULOUS difficult to remove - and without vacuum packing! I was expecting them to make my fermentation easier - and, frankly, more fun - but now I really regret not buying them at all. Worry about the plastic, you might be interested in taking a look at the Tritan they're made of.
