Review on UPERFECT Portable Monitor - 15.6" Ultrawide Screen, Full HD 1920X1080, 60Hz, Blue Light Filter, Built-In Speakers (N156N01) by Sean Bone

Revainrating 3 out of 5

An amazing travel monitor with an equally amazing amount of quirks.

I've owned this monitor for about a year and use it for: as an extended display, as a photo editing monitor when using my home desktop, and as a video monitor when browsing media on my phone. And I really liked this QLED monitor which is easy to switch between devices and carry around. So why 3 stars? Below I group my list items into "recoverable" complaints by user decision and "unrecoverable" complaints. User Error / Recoverable - Device does not display video - Often caused by insufficient display performance. Connect the second cable directly to the monitor as a power cord. The device still shows no video. Try restarting the original device. When it was connected as a second monitor to my desktop computer's graphics card, I often had to restart the computer for that monitor to be recognized. - The device is STILL showing no video - so it's weird. Connect the dedicated power cord to the monitor and the device that provides power and video (for me it was my Android phone). Something that shows video and powers the monitor 100% of the time. When the monitor boots up (displays an image), disconnect your phone. You should now see a blue screen with a message that there is no input source. Connect the actual input source you want to watch video from. This is the solution I came up with while trying to watch videos from my non-working laptop. For most standard (non-HDR) purposes, you should keep the contrast at 5 or lower. When browsing the web, you may notice that some user interface elements such as separators, navigation bars, and text boxes literally disappear. It just looks terrible for movies and photo editing. - The default contrast is 6 and it always resets to 6 after turning the monitor on/off. - HDR is ab****. I have nothing to do with it. I literally spent a few days figuring out all the ins and outs of the HDR settings in Windows and on this monitor. If you have a direct HDR source like a phone it might look great, but I always thought HDR looked like complete junk and the built-in ULTRA HDR mode made things worse. Strong color suppression. Most color effects other than "Standard" and "Photo" have an exceptionally bad effect on color. The built-in speakers are terrible. God help you if you want to change the input source when the desired input is not recognized. The monitor goes into sleep mode and the menu button stops working. That way you can only change the input when you have the input. Of course, the input source resets when the monitor turns off, so you'll be playing this game for specific inputs every time. Finally I will mention what I like because indeed this thing is still an exceptional display panel. All the horror in the software. - With a brightness of over 300 nits and a QLED screen. This monitor is still the best display in the house, it's not my phone. Despite the quirks, it's mostly a joy. - He's very light. Adding it to my travel bag has never been a problem. - 2 USB-C ports supporting video and power delivery is awesome. - Once you figure out the features, I'll start using it every day.
