Honestly, the setup isn't that bad. It makes sense to place the pins where you want the hood closed to mark where you need to drill right through the hood. At this point it should line up nicely if you get it right. Use a large hole saw at the bottom and then a small hole at the top. You can put something like a washer between the nut and the cap on the bottom. Otherwise it will not install properly. When everything is aligned, you only have to do the same operation 1 more time and you will be fine.
