This was a replacement for the first pair I bought from REI 8 years ago and wore regularly until the sole was thin on the heels. The salesman there said that he had worn his work to the shop every day for three years and that it was still comfortable and had a lot of wear and tear. The strap is one long, continuous piece (one of the cool parts of these sandals). Follow the directions carefully to ensure they fit comfortably - make sure you start the adjustment on the right side. When adjusting the fit, make sure there is enough room around your thumb. Once you get it right, you'll wish you lived in a warmer climate to wear them every day. and get that famous Z-shaped tan line on the top of the foot (another of the cool features of these sandals).
