In the meantime I have installed these sliding shoes with spring arms to reduce this friction somewhat. Based on my findings, these sliders still provide enough friction to control wobble, but prevent the L-brackets from flexing and also reduce the horrible squeak and squeak when turning. Some have complained that the L-Bracket's redesigned retaining clips aren't as good as the security clips on the original mounts. My mounts and clamps stay in place and that hasn't been a problem. By design, these locking pins should not be heavily loaded unless the alignment arms are truly adjusted.
