Let's call a spade a spade. That thermostat sucks and it's not something you want to control coolant flow in an engine that you care about. The reason I'm holding it in my hand in the photo is that it had to be removed and replaced with a genuine Subaru OEM thermostat. This little imitation is why my new rebuilt 2.5 liter engine had trouble overheating for the first 4,000 miles. Well, that, plus the amazingly short-sighted judgment of the service advisor who ordered this part to use in this setup.
