I bought 4 pieces and charged them with a 5V charger for an old cell phone. Charger not provided. There are three settings: On/Off/G. The G setting is for motion detection. The lights are magnetized and will still be metal or attached to strips. I use them in a dark pantry and they make a lot of light for that purpose. They turn on when you open the door and turn off after about 20 seconds. Sort of like a fridge light. Sometimes the movement doesn't work with one or two of them for some reason, but for the most part they work fine. It is possible to tear off the sticker on the lantern to make it for "weak" conditions. I don't know exactly what that means and I would suggest not doing so unless you can understand exactly what "low light" means to them.
