This roller is different from the ones I had before. I was expecting the knobs to rotate independently of the center cylinder, but I was wrong as they don't. It took a little getting used to, but it's all good to learn new habits. It's nice to be able to change the depth without having to guess with a regular reel. Also, I love the look of the scooter with all the rings attached when I store it on the shelf between uses. Another roll I have is kept in a drawer. It's a nice accent in the kitchen.
