Review on Potane Precision Machine Storage Options by Beth Dellman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great replacement for a dead FoodSaver

My 10 year old FoodSaver finally died and I was in desperate need of a replacement. Not only for long-term freezing of meat, but also for sous vide cooking, which I do often. As I researched different brands and models, I was surprised to see 87% five star ratings for the Potane vacuum sealer. The price seemed reasonable so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. Although I've only had it a few days, I tested it by sealing a dozen or so chicken thighs from the market and then checked its compatibility with the FoodSaver tins I have. It's gone. The machine is much quieter than my old one and vacuums and seals a bag in about the same time. The vacuum cleaner leaves no air pockets and the seal appears to be tight. (Have also tried this with sous vide and the seal has not leaked). I'm happy to report that the vacuum hose that came with it was compatible with old canisters that had a tight seal: I couldn't get them apart. I also like the smaller form factor which makes it easier to store. So I'm satisfied so far. If I had to deduct 1/4 to 1/2 stars it would be because the instructions on where to put the vacuum bag could have used a larger picture - it took me a while to get the spot right. I will update this review after a few months of use but for now I would recommend it to my friends.
