I have a 40 year old amp with the original TA2020 chip. It's never been a bad little amp. Purists threw a tantrum when Texas Instruments bought the rights and "modified" it. Check out the reviews and you'll see that people who have the new version of TI love it. They improved the sound. I also bought a 6 amp LEHOU power supply. This is a great little amp that can do that. It is perfect for dorm, apartment, workshop, office, etc. Combine it with a Micca speaker set and you will be amazed. Plug in a Bluetooth receiver and you have a tiny system that rivals a full-sized stereo. Hide it in your bookshelf and surprise your friends. You can even mount the amp on a wall or under a shelf. As for the blue LEDs around the volume knob, maybe Lepi was listening. I have a soft blue glow, very pleasing, not bright at all. I have this little amp and 4 inch micca speakers on a bookshelf in my office. When I turn it on, it sounds great throughout the house! You will NEVER believe the system is so small! The small Micca speakers have bass that rivals 8-inch speakers. Driver. The Leppy amp isn't 100 watts, but you'll never know. Sounds very clean and natural. The bass is strong but not boomy. The highs are crystal clear. It doesn't distort even at full power. My intention was and still is to restore my 40 year old vintage amp. But it really makes me question that decision. I'm very impressed with this little Lepy. Pros of a replacement power supply: The long cord is good and it looks like a laptop power supply. There is no transformer plug. I hid the stash under the shelf. The power supply itself is not a problem. Feels absolutely cool. Lepy has the extra power you need for punchy bass. ***UPDATE*** I have restored my 40 year old vintage receiver to like new condition. The problem is that what I needed took about a week. Back then I played everything on this little Lepi. It was so soft, balanced, natural, warm and clean. The sound just kept getting better. Now I have a big, expensive, and powerful receiver that does everything the Micca speakers need. but it sounds like shit! At first I thought the speakers came alive with this receiver. Now I think maybe they were just screaming in pain. The sound quality of this little Lepy is just as amazing as that of the Micca speakers. This is an alliance made in Revane's skies. Well I guess the good news is that the old receiver is heavy! Inside is a gigantic transformer that should contain miles of copper. Payments for scrap at the processing plant are more than paid by Lepy. Again, you could easily scoop enough loose change from sofa cushions to pay for Lepi! Trust me, if you're even thinking of building a new sound system, GET IT! Pair it with a pair of Micca MB42 bookshelf speakers for $50. Play for a week. If you don't quite LOVE it, feel free to flame me here and on my site day and night. I'm sure you'll say it was the best $85 you've ever spent. $24 for the Lepy and $11 for the upgraded PSU and $50 for the speakers. current prices at the time of writing this review. Update 07/28/20: The original date of purchase was 07/29/2018, so it was only about 2 years until the day my beloved Lepa broke. It still works, sort of, as long as I don't touch the wires. I remodeled my office. My speakers are no longer on the shelves in the back of my office. I bought floor stands and put them by my desk. lie down on my table At the same time, one of the speaker clips broke. I managed to put it back together but it's not. My Fosi DAC/headphone amp sits on top of the Lepy but the cables are pulling it from the back. I attached a few strips of double sided foam tape to hold the blocks together. At the same time, an OTHER speaker clip broke. I found the spring but not the clip. I finally found the clip and lost the quill! In the meantime, I just twisted together some speaker wire and plugged it in! It works as long as I don't move anything. Now I'm torn Will I buy another Lepa that has served me well for 2 years now? It's inexpensive and sounds amazing. Don't be fooled by bad reviews. Texas Instruments' TPA3118 chip is an "enhanced" version of the TriPath 2020A. The one who says "even close" has no idea what they are talking about. And 20 watts at once WAS power. Most amps were 15 watts. Do you want to scale it to 50 x 2? Attach a heatsink to the chip and use a 24V power supply. Or should I choose FOSI 100x2 with TPA3116 chips? It's still the same TriPath family. I don't need the extra power, but Fosi has banana braces that will never break. No, I love Lepi. I'll buy another one AND fix/upgrade this one with a heatsink, power supply and a new spring terminal block. I will also have additional parts to update the new one. It will go out onto the patio with a Bluetooth receiver and a couple of Polk atria when we reach the pool or RV.
