Defective channel. Low build quality. Very disappointed.

After hours of researching a decent small amp to power some pioneer bockshelf speakers I chose this one. Overall I'm very disapointed. I don't write many reviews but I felt like this was worth mentioning to other shoppers. After installing the amp I noticed the poor build quality and (worst of all) the right channel was only putting out a faint scratchy sound. I verified that it wasn't a connection issue by testing it with the other speaker. Under the circumstances I don't think I can comment…

Pros
  • been using this for 3 years never had an issue still going strong
Cons
  • Amplifier worked for one day, then returned.

Good Small Amp That Fits On A Desk

Needed an amp that could drive the Jamo C91 bookshelf speakers (6ohms at 100/150W short-term/long-term). This does a great job of driving them. They produce clean watts up until about the 2 o'clock position before they begin to distort, but this is plenty for my speakers. I actually got sent the SA-160 which has the headphone jack. I tested it, but it has more noise than my computer's on-board audio so I don't even bother with it. Also be aware that this does not support a sub-out if you plan…

Pros
  • Nice and clear sound and good quality,
Cons
  • Price may be prohibitively expensive for budget buyers

Five Stars: my feedback

This is a great sounding little amp! It’s punchy, clear and even sounding. The only negative is that the power supply is huge - it’s bigger than the amp itself! Not a deal breaker though and not worth a star deduction.

Pros
  • The real full-fever Genuine Parts Manufacturing
Cons
  • May be too large to fit in some home entertainment setups

Dodgy quality assurance. Might short out. Be careful!

Be careful with buying this amp! My first SMSL SA-98E arrived dead on arrival—there was a rattling sound inside—some part inside had broken off. The second SMSL worked great for 3 days then something shorted inside. The DC plug would make sparks when plugging it in, and the sound had clicking.I heard great reviews about the SA-98E. When it works, they drive big speakers really well. But two bad products in a row is a sign of poor quality assurance. You’re powering your EXPENSIVE speakers with…

Pros
  • Amplifiers
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all types of speakers

The 98e amp runs really cool after being on all day

I bought this amp to power my Micca Club 3's with Vifa tweeters and I'm really impressed with the quality of this amp . The 98e amp runs really cool after being on all day ,smooth volume control , solid construction, and really brings these 75 watt a piece speakers alive .

Pros
  • Big Power 2 x 160W stereo
Cons
  • Prone to overheating if used for extended periods of time

Great little amp for my opinion

This is a great little amp. I have it powering Pioneer SP-BS21 speakers and it works great for my smaller living room. No background noise at normal volumes and it is well made. Very satisfied with this purchase

Pros
  • Home Theater
Cons
  • Power adapter may be bulky and difficult to manage

impressive amp with big power in a small package

This little puppy can put out some sound for its size. I was looking for a smaller replacement for my old sony home audio receiver used at home. I have most all audio either originating from or piped through and mixed in one of my computers. All I needed was a solid, but affordable amplifier for 2 older style jbl northridge nd310s series speakers I've used for years. Each speaker box has tweeter, 4" mid-range, and 2 10" woofers, so 8 speakers total. 250watts rms. After seeing brands…

Pros
  • The S.M.S.L SA-98E amplifier is designed with energy efficiency in mind, ensuring that it consumes less power while still delivering high-quality audio, making it a cost-effective choice over time
Cons
  • Limited warranty period

I've tried a few of the Class T amps and I think the SMSL's are the best. I have this one plugged into my living room system (2 series I Bose 901's and a dedicated sub) and it easily powers the whole set up. If you haven't played around with Class T amps you should. They are just kinda cool

Pros
  • Versatility
Cons
  • May not live up to the quality standards of other, more expensive amplifier models

Died in less than five months

Cheap piece of junk. The power supply died in less than five months. Don't waste your money.spend $50 more and get a real amp from a reputable company. SMSL gear is NOT quality.

Pros
  • Wish it had a sub port but other wise it’s perfect for me!
Cons
  • Speakers hiss at idle with this amp

Drives 8 ohm 60 watt speakers very well.

I leave it on all of the time, runs cool. I have it setup with chrome cast audio and it drives my Niles 525, 8 ohm 60 watt in wall speakers. Very powerful.

Pros
  • Home Audio
Cons
  • May be too powerful for certain smaller spaces, causing distortion

All you need to know is POWER.

Holy.Crap. The amount of power this thing puts out for its size is incredible. I also have an SMSL Q5 Pro DAC/AMP and this blows it out of the water power wise. With that being said, the power is not all good, if you dig a little deeper on the power ratings you will see that max rated powers are made with pretty awful distortion. If you listen at lower volumes (still very powerful), it can still be an excellent sounding amplifier that will give even your less sensitive speakers a good driving…

Pros
  • High-quality sound
Cons
  • Not ideal for use on the go due to need for power adapter

Word of caution regarding sound quality

I wanted to post a review to help others who may be looking for good quality sound and not just high volume. After testing this amp with 3 sets of speakers and two different sources, I've decided to send it back, it's just not for me.Here's why:I'm not a bass head, I just want good, full sound. What this amp provides is very treble heavy, albeit clean audio that doesn't seem to distort at any volume. The lower frequencies come through a little better at a loud "party" level, but are…

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • May be too heavy to move easily

Small but mighty good for me

Small but mighty. this amp is no bigger than a desk of UNO cards and does an admirable job of driving bookshelf speakers. It is quite obvious that it isn't even close to 50w per channel @ 8ohms, but it still puts out plenty of clean output to be annoying. Compared to most of the other class-T amps I have played with, this is the best and highest output. Topping 60 is a very close second. How I set this up: Computer -> single-channel preamp -> SA-98E -> Athena B1 speakers. If you do…

Pros
  • With an included power adapter, the S.M.S.L SA-98E amplifier is easy to set up and use right out of the box, making it a convenient choice for people looking for an immediate solution to their audio needs
Cons
  • May have limited connectivity options

Great sound. good for me

Great sound. great price. I just didn't like the cable interface - it looked good in the pictures but was actually quite nasty in real life. But it'll do the job.

Pros
  • Sleek and stylish design
Cons
  • May require additional cables for optimal performance

Great little amp for my opinion

I use this to drive speakers with a small internet radio. If you want real speakers to play music from any portable device, I recommend this thing. Sound quality is quite good, and you could make it annoyingly loud no problem. The amp is quite small, but be warned that the DC converter "wall wart" is about as big as the amp itself. Oh, and you don't need banana plugs for it. I bought some thinking they were required, but you can also connect stripped wire directly.

Pros
  • High-End Audio products Jointed Euro and Japan Professional Amplifier/ DAC technology
Cons
  • Instructions may not be clear enough for beginners
