I just tested this with a wireless relay router I'm building. I bought one of these from the CompUSA store many years ago to use in the NetStumbler Wi-Fi device. I just bought a second one to convert my NetStumbler hardware into a relay router. The gain of these antennas over the standard antenna is sometimes nominal, but it is. In my tests, the overall gain ranged from 2 to 10 dB. If you calculate the average, you get the 6 dB indicated on the packaging. One thing you need to understand is that db is a relative dimension. In this case the reference for 6dB is the "standard dipole antenna" according to my amateur radio friend. The antennas that come with your wireless card or wireless access point can also be boosted beyond the standard. This gain can be greater than 6dB, in which case this antenna is lower for you. The main benefit of this antenna is not gain but positioning flexibility. If you're looking for a quick fix, this probably isn't the product for you. But if you're willing to experiment with positioning, you can get good results. One last thing, this antenna predates 802.11n or is nearing the beginning of "n" as the standard, as the specs on the box would suggest. You need 5 GHz for "n". This is not an 802.11b/g antenna. This is a 2.4GHz antenna. This is not a 5GHz antenna. If you're trying to troubleshoot an issue with 2.4GHz reception, this may help.
