Review on Floor Water Sensor Flood Detection by Kyle Herrera

Looks good but a bit crappy

pens are flimsy tabs in a $13 plastic case. You can use regular barbed wire and get the same functionality you probably already have in your home. The easiest way is a DC solid state relay. Pure water (distilled, reverse osmosis, and what drips from an AC unit) will not conduct electricity and will not activate your relay. To solve this problem, sprinkle the contacts with some rock salt (table salt also works). When water forms puddles, it absorbs salt and becomes conductive. Rock salt (ice melter) works best because table salt dissolves quickly. I bought this to build a system that will drain hydroponic nutrients and turn metal strips green and corroded in less than 3 weeks. I replaced the speaker wire with a stripped 1/8" wire and it worked. It's convenient as it comes with screw holes and doesn't require adjustment, but it won't last long because they used the cheapest metal. So when you buy this if it breaks you can just cut off the plastic end and strip the wire.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Old
