I still own a few of the original iRobot Rumbas robots that were released over two decades ago. No matter how much I thought about upgrading, I found that older devices are like a science project. You can take them apart, diagnose the problem and swap out the parts as you wish. Batteries (for me) can last a couple of years before needing to be replaced. These rechargeable batteries add a few years to my Roomba every time I swap them out. The cost is low and (assuming you take care of your own Roomba) the durability is worth the investment.
