I bought this when my 2007 Cummins 6.7L RAM 3500 Cab and Chassis refused to charge. The voltmeter was below 10 volts and fell. In the end, he just died idling. I was sure it was a generator so I pulled the trigger. Before it arrived I did a lot of research on charging issues and found out it could be bad contacts on the batteries (there are 2 on this truck). Since it was winter in Maine and the truck was in the field, I checked the terminals before replacing the alternator. Of course, the ground contact of the battery on the passenger side has come loose. I took both batteries home and charged them. I then polished the posts and connectors and reinstalled the batteries. The truck started immediately and after a few disconcerting moments the voltmeter slowly rose to 14 volts and stayed there. I have found that on this model (and possibly others) the alternator only does what the computer (ECM?) says. Not recognizing the ground of the second battery, the computer signaled no charging to the generator. live and learn I'm keeping this generator in case the one in the truck ever dies. Cheap insurance.
