I was disappointed with the plastic case. It's basically cheap plastic like the LCD thermometers you buy at any discount store. For the price, I was expecting a more robust, industrial-grade case. The alarm is not very loud and cannot be heard if the freezer is in a basement, a separate room or in a noisy environment. The sensor wires are slightly thicker than expected. If you run them under the door seal (as opposed to drilling a hole in the side of the freezer) they will create a small air gap. I've found that routing the wires in the top corner on the hinge side provides the best seal. To keep the installation clean I coiled up the excess cable inside the freezer/fridge compartment and kept the outer visible cables to the display as short as possible. Once everything was installed I insulated the sensor wires inside and out with white PVC tape to fit the device. Apart from these shortcomings mentioned above, the thermometer appears to be accurate and reliable and should hopefully outlive the instrument. Liquid-filled probe balls provide excellent protection against sudden temperature changes caused by door opening/closing.
