Review on πŸš— Sony XAV-AX5000 7-Inch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Media Receiver with Bluetooth by Kim Scott

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fit perfectly in almost every interior!

I bought a 2004 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate last summer and have always wanted to fit an aftermarket head unit for my subwoofer, but for a long time I couldn't find anything on the market that seemed subtle. enough to match the interior of the car. However, the latest XAV-AX5000 looks perfect; almost factory! I'd recommend this device to anyone who drives an old luxury car and is looking for something that isn't mostly glossy black plastic with accent lighting, over the top buttons and futuristic font options. Disclaimer: I have not experimented. with many features of this device; I don't use satellite radio at all and rarely listen to AM/FM, but as far as I can tell they work well. Lots of preset radio options. Pros: - The dimmer dims the screen STRONGLY. I don't like driving new cars at night because I find the screen annoying even on the darkest settings - not like that. When the dimmer is on, Android Auto also goes into "night mode" when the screens in Google Maps, Waze, and any audio playback are dark grey/blue instead of white (see attached images). - Physical volume. Rocker and fast forward/rewind buttons. This makes it a lot easier to control while driving, rather than jabbing your finger at the touchscreen and hoping you've landed in the right spot. They are lit but dimmed with the screen's dimmer. - Possibility of reversing camera. If you buy one of these devices, buy a $30 camera with it. It's worth it. Also, you can view it on screen while driving down the road, which is pretty fun. The capacitive touchscreen works very well. No more repeated hits on the soft resistive screen; This is one of the other reasons I bought this device. Cons (yes, the only and minor ones): - You cannot (currently) have custom wallpapers other than 6 or 7 that are included. It doesn't really bother me because the green matches the green on my sensors perfectly, but it would be nice to have options.

Pros
  • Dual USB port: Enjoy the best hits from your music library while your phone processes routes. Sound level adjustment: Yes (from minus 8 dB to plus 18 dB). Sirius XM Radio Support: Connect a Sirius XM Radio satellite tuner (not included) and enjoy commercial-free music, sports, news and entertainment.
Cons
  • Weight
