The Asics Gel Resolution series has been one of my favorite tennis shoes for the last 10+ years since version 5. Model 8 has been missing for almost two years but it was my first pair. First impressions: I can't understand why they still call it Gel-Resolution because it seems they changed the last one (foot model) as well as a number of core features. I love the little pocket on the tongue to keep the laces in place and I love the fact that the laces stay in place when pulled (maybe too well). But there doesn't seem to be much midrange cushioning on this model, or the ride is firmer for stability. Another indication of stability is the new strap that runs across the arch of the foot and the lacing system - which I could probably do without. Some reviewers said the cutout makes the shoe more comfortable, but I'm wary of doing anything that would compromise the core design. I also hope that with a few adjustments I can get used to it. The outsole feels just as solid as previous versions, but overall I just can't get over the Gel-Resolution 8 as much as the 5, 6 and 7.
