It's not what they say. They trick you into buying it along with the product.

This is not an activation code that they force you to buy which I found odd. Typically, any time you need to activate a software product, it is included with your purchase. The product was not software, but hardware. It wasn't an activation code, it was a support payment to get help with a product. Service contract. They fool you into thinking you need it for your Netgear product and you don't. You can purchase it when purchasing the product if you wish. I was so disappointed that Netgear dragged me into it. Sad.
