The magnetic board works like a magnet. Just because you want to place the cube in a specific spot (to save paper) means the magnetic platform wants it. I got this because I'm dealing with cutting 20 rather small framelites, but I had to swap out the stamps from my intended spot to keep them from scattering. It lasts all the time and then what I originally saved. On the other hand, the stamps no longer slide off the platform into the abyss under my desk. That's pretty much annoying.
