If you can get all the parts working it's a very good computer

I've had a Latitude E6400 for about ten years. It was a workhorse and I wore out 3 keyboards on this machine before our cat broke the last one and inspired me to find a Win10 computer for my late one after Win7 E6400. Everything about this computer, the E6440, is an improvement over the E6400. Wi-Fi is faster, Bluetooth really works, the backlit keyboard is really pleasant to type on, my old software installed flawlessly (including ProTools 11 HD), and Win10 setup and authentication was a breeze. I'm used to the speed of an SSD, so we'll see if I stick with a standard 500G drive or upgrade to an SSD. This would be especially likely if I could clone my current disk configuration. My unit came with an intermittently defective power supply/wart on the wall. Jackson at Dynamic Tech Direct was my technical representative for a problem AC adapter/charger and he provided me with a working replacement two days after I filed a complaint about the problem. Unbeatable for the service. After a few days, the left USB3 port stopped communicating with most other devices: USB stick, trackball, USB-SATA docking station, etc. It charges devices, but doesn't communicate with anything except a WD Passport (?) drive . The 2 right USB ports work fine. ThinkDynamic's customer service is fantastic and I'm mostly happy with my computer. The problem is clearly software, but nothing I've tried has solved it. In my case I have no idea what "refurbished Dell" means. My laptop looked like new in minimal (but very secure) packaging. This machine has NO signs of use. However, it's pretty clear that when these computers are put back into service, minimal verification is done.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
