These sensors work very well and are very fast

The sensor output is high (about 5 volts) when activated, but low (about 0 volts) when not activated. In my application, the input to the computer has a pull-up resistor that prevents the low idle from being low enough and causing a continuous high as if the sensor were activated. To solve this I used a 74ls02 gateless IC and used two of the four (2 inputs) gateless to get it working. I connected them in series with a wire that drew 5V power and ground for power, then soldered the outputs of the two input sensors to the first gate and the output went to the second gate, both inputs were connected together and the output went back to the computer. Since the sensor is now in disabled mode, the output of the second gate changes the output to a low level (well below 1 volt). Put a piece of heat shrink tubing on top of the chip and it works great!

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
