2002 VW GTI on Interior

My original remote (three button remote/don't panic) had the lock/unlock/trunk buttons completely destroyed as I've been using my 2002 GTI every 10 seconds over the past few years . The buttons on my original remote were completely unusable and I had to manually unlock the car (what a pain, am I right?! LOL). I bought this (not knowing if the panic button would be a problem) and was planning on replacing all the internals. (Keep the boat charged and DO NOT go to the dealer, there are tons of videos on YouTube on how to do this. If you don't lose your key, the locksmith can shorten the new key without the old one, but not every locksmith will be able to be to reprogram the immobilizer.) Today I received new key fobs in the mail and my original key was so worn that it broke after I pulled out the pin with the key. Luckily the part that needed to be scanned to ensure the recut new key was still intact. I called a locksmith and he cut out two new keys for me ($50). I swapped out all the internals and voila! I have two keys, just one with the internals programmed for my GTI and an extra one in case that remote wears out too. All for a dealer offer of $130. (50 for crafting new keys and 20 for making the new key fobs yourself.) Oh, and now I have a panic button. Each new remote control comes with a computer circuit board and an immobilizer chip. I just replaced them from my old key fob so I didn't have to pay to reprogram a new key. Also learn from your mistakes. If you replace all the internal parts, the part that holds the key can also be switched over to the new key fob. (You can skip pressing the pin part to get the key out.) PS I didn't buy any glue so my immobilizer chip just cools my remote rattle as much as it does my GTI.
