Haven't bought a new scanner since the analog days (20+ years ago). I am very happy with this scanner. With the old analog scanners, you bought a frequency book and spent hours fumbling with the buttons and plugging in all the frequencies. It wasn't very easy. Although trunked systems are more complex, using RadioReference.com and Freescan software greatly simplifies programming these scanners. If you don't have a PC and don't control it, but think you can program these scanners with the buttons on the front, good luck and god bless you. I respected a little and actually downloaded the Freescan software and programmed my channels before the scanner arrived. You should get used to how Uniden creates "Systems", then "Sites", and finally "Talkgroups". Multi-site trunk channel scanning: read about it, study it, it's not that difficult. When my scanner arrived, I unpacked it, installed the driver on the PC and uploaded my data; I was on my way within 15 minutes. Read about it, study it, it's not that difficult.
