Non-technical figured it out and is very satisfied

I'm a teacher and not very techy and I love this product. I needed to convert my extensive library of VHS study material to DVD format. This product works great. There are only a couple of points I could add that I didn't see in the reviews I've read. I think some of them are so obvious that anyone with a technical background might think they don't need to be mentioned. First, if you're trying to convert plain old VHS tapes, you'll need a VCR. I didn't have it and actually thought (not understanding the scale of the product's photo) that the tapes were going INTO THIS unit. The good news is that all you need is a VCR and a cable with red, yellow, and white connectors. Your TV will not connect. You feed the tape into the converter. The converter has a small screen that shows where on the tape the converter is "reading". The other really cool part is that you can "edit" the parts of your VHS tapes that you don't want (in my case, the commercials embedded in the video). You just hit the pause button to skip those parts. One thing mentioned in previous reviews that I want to reiterate is that you need to change the recording quality setting from HQ to SP. This gives you 2 hours of video on each disc instead of just over 1 hour and 20 minutes or so. Finally, you need to buy DVD-R type discs. I wasted some time trying to understand the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R. This is a great product and there really is nothing else on the market like it!

Pros
