Review on Fitbit Charge Wireless Activity Wristband: Small Size, Sleek Black Design by David Encarnacion

Great if you like expensive crap that falls apart after 6 months

I bought a Fitbit Charge 15 months ago. Initially I was very happy with it, it seemed to work well, easy to use etc. But within 8 months the band broke down. I called support and they replaced it. I should also note that the same thing happened to my husband over the same period. My replacement had some issues with the firmware, but after a long chat with the support team, they were able to fix it remotely. I have a feeling that this module is more stingy with the distribution of steps, but it works fine most of the time. Fast forward to this month, 6 months after receiving a replacement and that group failed too. Called customer service and the best they could offer was a 25% discount on a replacement that wasn't even better than their retail prices. Em. No. I understand that the warranty has expired, but a quick google session will make it clear that this is incredibly common and obviously a design flaw. I've had a $30 Timex watch with better straps. Fitbit needs to design better straps, or at least make things like that, so you can replace a strap without having to replace the entire unit. They know it's a problem and refuse to support their product. Unless you're one of those people who upgrade all their tech every year and send the excess to the landfill, I would suggest staying away from this company.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Loads of stuff
