I am rating this product with one star because it not only improves fast reading. Gave this to my father-in-law to improve his visually impaired reading experience. He gave it back to me when we visited 10 months later. I've tried it myself and it's utterly useless to just sit and read. Can be useful for very short-term reading (say, watching an advertisement) - but the magnifier's field of view, held vertically or horizontally, isn't wide enough to cover even a full page of a medium-sized book. In addition, the glass has an ideal spot for reading lines that need to be corrected as the glass moves across the page. It's like progressive lenses on glasses. You can't read without leaning over the book at an angle that ends up not being comfortable. I wish he would have told me sooner so I could return this item. It has now been used twice. It would also be tedious to keep the device reading for a while. The only positive is that the lighting itself was adequate.
